first check

Well where do I begin....

Last week I was sitting in class when a friend of mine asked me to see my planner. On January 30th he asked me to put that I was having lunch with him. I agreed thinking that he had discovered a new sushi place (my favorite) that he wanted to introduce me to...

On the 30th he picked me up around 11:30. We drove downtown and he told me his mom found out we were eating lunch downtown and asked him if he could pick up some paperwork for work from a friend of hers. I believed it because his mom did work downtown. There was a cone in the parking spot right in front of the building 'reserved' for him. I was told it was because she knew that we were in a hurry to get to lunch since we both had work at 1:30. We go inside and Rafael ("his moms work friend") pulled him outside saying he needed help with something real fast. So I sat in the lobby of the building waiting thinking of what type of sushi roll id order today. They came back in and we headed up the elevator which I assumed was to grab the paperwork. We went to the top floor, up some stairs and Rafael asked me to close my eyes and take his hand. Hm, interesting. I did as told and when I opened my eyes the most beautiful view that San Diego has to offer laid out in front of me. There we were, standing on top of a building that overlooked all of San Diego. Such a beautiful, clear, sunny day. The building had no rails which made it even more amazing (and a little scary for someone terrified of heights). Come to find out that my friend had went to several different building in hopes to get to the roof because he knew it was something I had been wanting to do. When he saw this building he knew it was the one. He tried to sneak on but there was no way in since every door was locked. The maintenance man, Rafael, came out and asked him if he needed help. He told him he wanted to get on to the roof because a friend of his has always wanted to have lunch on top of one. Rafael loved the idea and the courage he had to ask and willingly said he would allow this to happen. When we were leaving Rafael told us we were welcome back anytime and that he also had several bikes that we could use if we ever wanted to borrow one and go for a stroll downtown. Such a caring, genuine guy.

And that is how I got my first check on my bucket list, Sneaking onto a building to have lunch :)
